West Coast Eagles players and officials arrived in Geraldton this morning, kicking off their annual Community Camp with a reception at the City of Geraldton Civic Centre.

Among the invited guests was the Member for Geraldton Shane Hill MLA, the City of Geraldton CEO Rob Jeffries, the Shire of Greenough President and CEO, John Sewell and Bill Perry, and Geoff Glass from the WA Football Commission.

Acting Mayor Ian Carpenter welcomed the players and staff before West Coast CEO Trevor Nisbett and senior coach John Worsfold presented the city with a signed 2007 guernsey. Each player was then offered a gift from the children of Geraldton.

Worsfold is keen to emphasise the importance of the AFL Community Camp program for not only rural communities, but his players as well.

“I think they’re extremely important. It’s good for the players to get out into the country areas.

“They learn different skills by getting away and actually having to adapt to the new environment gives them a new focus for their training.”

The genuine warmth and generosity of the city has already been felt by the West Coast Eagles, and players and officials alike are looking forward to what else Geraldton has in store for them in the days to come.
