Exciting West Coast Eagles forward Liam Ryan had one of his dreams realised when he was named in the 2025 Indigenous All Stars team to take on the Fremantle Dockers on February 15.

The game will be played at Optus Stadium, a decade after the All Stars last came together, and Ryan is excited to don the vibrant yellow Indigenous All-Stars uniform, designed by First Nations muralist Jade Dolman.

“It feels special as, she (Dolman) has done a great job,” Ryan said.

“It really means a lot, it’s going to be amazing for me and the other blokes playing, we’re going to run out with pride and hopefully put on a show.”

“I grew up watching blokes like ‘Goodesy’ (Adam Goodes), Lewis Letta, and the Davey brothers.

“It was my dream to try and play in a game like this and it means a lot.”

Dolman’s design focuses on telling the story of the legacy created by the Indigenous All Stars players who will wear the guernsey, with colours from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags represented throughout the artwork.

The legacy artwork on the guernsey rises from behind the river, and centres around children, with AFL players surrounding them. The design also showcases root symbols representing the pathways for growth and opportunity.

Dolman’s design includes symbols representing the important role females play, as well as river and freshwater symbols, and the Beeliar/umbilical cord to further represent the importance of water and protecting our future and new life.

The All Stars team currently features a number of small forwards, with the full squad to be announced in early February, and interest surrounds who will be named in the ruck position, with just two Indigenous rucks on AFL lists.

Young Indigenous ruckman Coen Livingstone could be a chance to be named alongside teammate Ryan, who is encouraging the talented rookie to consider the possibility.

“I hope so, I keep putting pressure on him,” Ryan said.

“I keep saying ‘you might be playing because you’re the only Indigenous ruckman’, him and Issac Keeler (St Kilda).

“So, you never know, he might get that experience.”
