WEST Coast defender Mitch Brown looks to have seriously injured his right knee during Saturday's Western Derby at Patersons Stadium.

He went down awkwardly in a marking contest early in the third term and immediately left the field on a motorised stretcher.

SIMPSON: Brown's injury could be better than we thought

Brown had a knee reconstruction on his left knee after an incident in a practice match against Collingwood in 2008 and missed the whole season.

The incident sparked controversy over whether certain pre-season venues weren't up to AFL standard.

If the worst is confirmed, he will be sorely missed by a West Coast defence who lost full-back Darren Glass to retirement earlier this month.
