Revered West Coast Eagles premiership defender Darren Glass is poised to return to the club to assume the role of List Manager.
For the last two years, Glass has been the backline coach at Hawthorn, but is looking forward to his transition into a key administrative role.
Glass, who was captain for 129 of his 270 games, forged one of the great careers in the history of the club – winning three Club Champion Awards and was four times selected in the all-Australian team, as captain in 2012.
He earned great respect as a leader, assuming the captaincy when 2006 premiership skipper Chris Judd left for Carlton 12 months after guiding the club to the ultimate triumph.
“Darren is a favourite son of the club, but more importantly has the passion, drive and skills set ideally suited to this role,” General Manager of football Craig Vozzo said today.
“He has spent the last five years developing himself and broadening his life experiences. We feel that he is now really well placed to take on this new challenge.”
Glass said he was excited at the prospect of returning to the club and taking his career in another direction.
“We’re keen to come home and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity of the List Management role,” Glass said.
“It is a terrific opportunity for me to start the next chapter of my life. While it will be great to be at the club where I played all of my football, I would also like to acknowledge Hawthorn, who were so good to me and my family.
“They gave me the chance to coach, grow and develop, and I will also be grateful for that.”
