West Coast Eagles key forward Jake Waterman will be a test for Sunday’s clash with the Giants, while defender Jeremy McGovern is only set for a short stint on the sidelines with an adductor injury.
Waterman has missed the last two games with a back-related calf issue.
“Jake has been recovering well and has been in full training for the last week,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“There are still a few boxes he needs to tick before being fit to play this weekend, so he will be a test for the weekend’s game.”
Vice-captain McGovern came from the ground against Fremantle but in positive news has only sustained a relatively minor setback.
“Gov’ suffered an adductor strain in the third quarter on Sunday,” Inness said.
“It’s on the lower end of severity, however he will still miss between two-to-four weeks, depending on how he progresses in the next week.”
Second-year Eagle Jack Hutchinson is progressing well after suffering a hamstring strain in round one.
“Jack is starting to hit speed and is now being integrated into the high-speed drills in main training,” Inness said.
“We are looking to see him back playing in the next week or two.”
Elliot Yeo continues on his road to recovery after injuring the medial ligament in his right knee and requiring syndesmosis surgery on his right ankle in January.
“Elliot started running on-field on Saturday, which was great to see,” Inness said.
“We expect him to progress into some higher intensity drills in the coming week, however he is still around four-to-five weeks away from a return to play.”
Meanwhile, Campbell Chesser has been given an estimated return timeframe following ankle surgery in February.
“Campbell is tracking well in his strengthening phase from his ankle surgery, and we are expecting him to be back running next week,” Inness said.
“All going well, he will be returning to play in six-to-eight weeks.”
