Newly-selected draftees, including a pair of Naitanui Academy graduates, have joined the senior West Coast Eagles squad on the track as they gear up for their first AFL pre-seasons.

West Coast’s local first-round selections Reuben Ginbey and Elijah Hewett were put through their paces on the track, alongside Academy duo Tyrell Dewar and Jordyn Baker, after they officially became Eagles as category B rookies.

Following their initial fitness training, the young quartet shifted their focus to skill work before assisting the main group with some handball-receive drills.

In a welcome sight, a large number of senior players were back joining in main training ahead of their required start date, with Luke Shuey, Andrew Gaff, Tom Cole, Oscar Allen, Tom Barrass and Dom Sheed among those slotting back in seamlessly.

There was a lot to like about the composure shown from the entire squad as the intensity lifted another level in the morning session at Mineral Resources Park.

In particular, Greg Clark and Brady Hough worked hard to set the pace of training and were rewarded for it by finding a lot of the ball in space.

Callum Jamieson was impressive under the high ball using his height to bag a number of contested marks.

Hard-running forward Jamie Cripps dominated the session with his high work rate and quick first step, dashing through the corridor before finding teammates with a high level of accuracy.

As the pre-season rolls through the side is looking sharp, despite only being in their second week, with communication high and skill execution on point.

West Coast’s three draftees from outside Western Australia – Harry Barnett (SA), Coby Burgiel and Noah Long (Victoria) – are set to arrive in Perth on Friday, before joining the squad on the training track next week.
