The West Coast Eagles finalised a momentous draft by re-committing to two players who have already played senior football and then broke new ground by selecting two Naitanui Academy (Next Generation Academy) products in the rookie draft.
Forward Isiah Winder and midfielder Zane Trew were de-listed about a month ago with the club indicating they would look to bring them back into the fold as rookies.
That occurred as expected and then the club secured East Perth wingman Jordyn Baker and Subiaco forward Tyrell Dewar as the club’s first NGA players to elevate to the elite level as category B rookies.
Baker is an athletic wingman with neat skills who first came to notice of club development staff a few years ago while Dewar, originally from Kalgoorlie, announced himself several years ago as a classy youngster playing in the Nicky Winmar Cup in Mandurah.
He is a clever forward with an instinctive goal sense who has developed his defensive attributes by also swinging into a defensive role across half-back.
Trew, who has been at the club for the last two seasons, made his senior debut against Richmond in round 16 at the MCG while Winder played six games in 2022 after making his debut a year earlier.
The completion of the rookie draft today means the club has added eight players to its list since the end of the season, starting with rebounding defender Jayden Hunt who joined the Eagles from Melbourne as an unrestricted free agent.

On Monday night they then locked in East Perth midfielder Reuben Ginbey and Swan Districts youngster Elijah Hewett in the first round of the draft before adding 202cm South Australian ruckman Harry Barnett, Victoria Country midfielder/forward Coby Burgiel and Bendigo small forward Noah Long on night two.
Adding Baker and Dewar adds to the fresh faces who will roll into the club over coming days for the pre-Christmas training phase.
