During the season break, Eagles defender Liam Duggan visited Newman and surrounding remote Pilbara communities with the Eagles regional team.

Their first stop was Nullagine Remote Community School, located in the picturesque town of Nullagine – 200km north of Newman and 100km south of Marble Bar.

The team ran through fundamental football skills before holding a fun match with Duggan sharing plenty of tricks and tips throughout the day.

Their next stop was Jigalong Remote Community School where they were met with plenty of excitement as students were eager kick the footy.

After spending the morning helping in the classroom, they headed out to the football oval for circus type skills and fun games. Lunch was spent eating plenty of fruit and some basketball before they were joined by senior students for some drills with more of a skill-based focus.

As the Pilbara sun continued to shine, they finished the senior session with a goal kicking competition and a signed footy up for grabs for the winners.

Newman Youth Engagement Coordinator, Hamish Coulton said these programs and events help ensure a meaningful engagement with local youth while creating a fun environment

“It was great to visit the communities and see students engage with a positive role model from the club,” said Hamish.

“I hope everyone involved gained something out of the visit.

“I would like to thank Nullagine RCS and Jigalong RCS for having us.”
