Connor West will add another chapter to his intriguing AFL story next year after re-signing with the West Coast Eagles.
Recruited in the 2021 Mid-Season Rookie Draft, the upbeat West Perth product made an early impression with his appetite for the contest and running power, and quickly became a popular member of the playing group.
Building on his five appearances from his shortened debut campaign, West featured in 14 matches last season.
The hard-working 23-year-old’s best performance came against reigning premier Melbourne in round nine, when he gathered a career-high 29 disposals, with eight inside 50s and seven tackles at Optus Stadium.
West, the son of ex-Eagles onballer and Sandover medallist Robbie, ran into some injury trouble late in the year, with an Achilles problem costing him two games before he suffered a season-ending wrist fracture during the round 20 clash with Gold Coast.
He averaged 14.1 disposals, 5.6 contested possessions and 3.7 tackles in 2022 and was a strong performer during the club’s challenging first half of the season.
“Connor has committed to get the best out of himself since joining the club and we are pleased he has re-signed for next season,” National Recruiting Manager Rohan O’Brien said.
“He was a valuable contributor during the first half of last season in particular when the team was facing significant availability challenges, and we believe there is still plenty of upside for Connor as he continues his AFL career with the club next year.”
