West Coast star Elliot Yeo has received the best possible news from scans on his strained hamstring and the two-time John Worsfold medallist could be back playing within three-to-four weeks.
Yeo pulled up short early in the third quarter against Richmond at the MCG on Sunday and immediately went to the interchange bench before being subbed out.
“We had the scans back and it’s promising, so that’s good news and he’s started his rehab program,” Head of Health Mark Finucane told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“In the next day or two we’ll hopefully start him jogging and build through the hamstring program from there.”
There is also good news for Samo Petrevski-Seton, who tweaked his ankle against the Tigers after coming on to replace Yeo.
The utility ran encouragingly at training on Tuesday and should be available, along with champion forward Josh Kennedy after a week’s rest for his sore knee.
“Sam came on as the medi-sub and rolled the ankle. He was able to play out the game and the ankle has pulled up well. He trained today and should be available for the weekend,” Finucane said.
“’JK’ has been managing a grumbly knee so the week off allowed that to settle and we’ll see him back out there this weekend.”
Four-time All-Australian defender Jeremy McGovern has resumed some light cardio work following surgery on his broken ribs, ahead of follow-up scans and a visit with the surgeon next week.
“Gov is being reviewed regularly with our doctors. He sees the surgeon next week with some follow-up scans and we’ll have some further information about his program from there,” Finucane said.
“But he started some light spin on the bike and no issues with that. It’s just a slow progression from there.”
Encouragingly, small forward Zac Langdon appears ready for his WAFL comeback this round following a long lay off with an ankle injury, while top draftee Campbell Chesser is back running again following his ankle operation.
“Campbell had his first walk-jog Saturday and he was on-ground again today so it’s great to see Campbell out there,” Finucane said.
“The ankle has tolerated that start on-ground. It’s been a long time off and he’ll have a gradual program to build back to conditioning from there.”
In other news, tall forward Hugh Dixon is close to resuming following calf and ankle complaints.
“Hugh has had a couple of back-to-back niggles, so he’s doing a functional sign-off later in the week and we’ll see him with the group next week,” Finucane said.
“Then we’ve just got to look at how much conditioning he’s had with those disruptions as to whether he’s in next week or the week after when he gets a bit more training under his belt.”
