In promising signs ahead of the 2025 season, West Coast Eagles defender Rhett Bazzo and midfielder Elliot Yeo are advancing well through their rehabilitation programs.
Bazzo had surgery to repair a fractured bone in his right foot following a training incident at the end of last year.
“Rhett is progressing well and we expect to see him in some match sim at training later in the week,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“He’s still a couple of weeks away from being available for AFL selection as we continue to build his training loads up to help increase his durability.”
Yeo injured the medial ligament in his right knee and required syndesmosis surgery on his right ankle after being tackled during match simulation in January.
“Elliot is back running and will continue to increase his loads over the next few weeks before we see him in some training drills,” Inness said.
Eagles midfielder Campbell Chesser underwent ankle surgery last week to give him the best chance of playing as much football as possible this year.
“Campbell had a successful operation on his pre-existing ankle issue,” Inness said.
“We will be in a position to put a timeframe around his expected return to play in the coming weeks.”
Versatile tall Callum Jamieson continues to work through his knee and ankle rehab, while young ruck Coen Livingstone will return to main training this week.
“Cal is progressing his training load and is transitioning into drills after his knee and ankle surgery from last season,” Inness said.
“He is still a number of weeks away from being available as we continue to increase his condition and durability.
“Coen trained with the WAFL squad last Friday with limited contact and is expected to full train this week.”
After a freshen up to overcome some general soreness, exciting young midfielder Elijah Hewett is expected to return to main training next week.
“Elijah has had a great pre-season to date,” Inness said.
“Due to him missing last season through injury, we’ve used this period to freshen him up as we do from time to time.
“He will be back in training towards the back end of this week, and we expect him to full train next week.”
