Mikayla Bowen's weekend was one to remember, with the nineteen-year-old adding several notches to her belt, including the NAB Rising Star and Crown Player of the Match.
But the gongs didn't top there, with Bowen named alongside teammate Maddy Collier in the AFLW Team of the Week following a thrilling display against Gold Coast which saw the Eagles take home their first win of the season.
Claiming this plethora of awards is no easy feat, but Bowen did it in style, racking up 21 disposals, seven marks and the match-winning goal.
“It’s been a pretty crazy last day or so, and I’m incredible honoured to receive NAB Rising Star for this round.” Bowen said.
“I think it’s a testament to how hard we’re continuing to work as a group, win or lose.
“These kinds of things don’t come to players without the entirety of the team, I just feel blessed to be able to be surrounded by such amazing women that continue to drive me.
“So I can’t really take it as ‘my’ most accomplished week in AFLW because in reality, none of this would’ve happened if I didn’t have my team with me.
“I think as a group we’re continuing to strive to be better as a unit and I think if anything I am just over the moon we could get a little taste of it this weekend.
“I really am just excited for what’s to come, it’s been a big week, but I’m excited to regroup and look onto the next, because at the end of the day – the job’s not done and I’m always hungry.”
This level of hunger was exemplified across the ground, with West Coast Eagles’ half-back Maddy Collier also applying some serious damage.
Collier was also named in the Team of the Week, after claiming 22 disposals, eight intercepts and three tackles.
This match stacked up as Collier’s best game in the blue and gold.
“I feel like I’ve been building towards this; things are starting to click for me this year.” Collier said.
“Pratty is also largely to thank for that as well, with his coaching style and the way he goes about it.
“It’s an honour and stoked to see 'Bowsey' in there too because she had a ripper.
“Just a cherry on top of the win really.”
Bowen also commended teammate Collier.
“I do feel super proud and honoured to be part of the Team of the Week alongside one of my most ruthless and driven teammates Maddy Collier.” Bowen said.
"To be recognised within such an amazing group of women in the AFLW is pretty cool to me and is something I simply could not take for granted.”
