The West Coast Eagles have finalised an active and productive Trade Period, going a long way towards satisfying priorities of addressing important list needs while significantly improving their 2021 draft hand.

The club’s pair of talented recruits – former Greater Western Sydney small forward Zac Langdon and defender Alex Witherden from Brisbane - are relatively young but experienced players who can add value now and into the future.

Witherden is a 22-year-old mid-sized backman with excellent kicking ability who has already played 59 career games, and his skillset is complementary to our current group of defenders.

The former Lion still has growth in him as a player and can develop alongside the club’s other emerging mid-sized defenders in Liam Duggan, Jackson Nelson, Tom Cole and Josh Rotham.

Langdon boasts a good blend of skill, speed and endurance combined with an appetite for forward pressure.

The 24-year-old burst onto the AFL scene in 2018, averaging one goal and more than four tackles per game from 21 matches.

He bolsters the club’s small forward stocks that still have a number of developing players, as well as established stars in Jamie Cripps and Liam Ryan.

Outside of addressing those list needs, West Coast also significantly improved its 2021 draft hand, another important component of the club’s list strategy.

After ruckman Tom Hickey expressed a desire to move to the east coast to be closer to family, West Coast acquired Port Adelaide’s future second-round pick and Sydney’s future third-round selection in a trade with the Swans.

This means the club’s 2021 draft hand includes a first-round pick, a pair of second-round selections, as well as third and fourth-round picks.
