The West Coast Eagles and the City of Greater Geraldton collaborated to provide local and visiting youth with off-season football activations over the school holiday period.
Hosted over three days on the foreshore at Stow Gardens, the young attendees participated in skill-based games and drills to get them up-and-about each morning, finishing off each session with some Eagles Freestyle Footy fun.
With other sports taking the spotlight over the Christmas and New Year school holiday break, these sessions allowed youth to stay engaged with footy, have fun and make new friends.
Eagles Youth Engagement Coordinator Brendon Daily was thrilled with the turnout over the three days in what was a collaborative program with the club’s key local stakeholder.
“Our school holiday program was a huge success. We understand the importance of how footy can unite communities and this initiative provided an important vehicle for both local and visiting youth to the region to stay active and engaged in a healthy way during a time when school is not there to keep them busy,” he said.
“One of the main goals was to continue to work alongside the City of Greater Geraldton who are a fantastic supporter of the Club in the Mid-West. The program gave us opportunity to be present over a period of the holidays when football season isn’t in full swing, but we were still able to provide some additional recreation opportunities for the boys and girls.
“This was the first time Eagles Freestyle Footy has been run in the Mid-West over the holiday period providing a unique experience for visitors to Geraldton. I found that a large number of the attendees were members, so it was a fantastic opportunity for me to engage with them and provide a deeper connection to the Club regionally.”
The West Coast Eagles are proud of the deep connection we have to regional communities and all our members across WA.
