Veteran forward Josh Kennedy has been in sublime, game-breaking form, in the last fortnight.
He backed up a Glendinning-Allan Medal winning performance in the RAC Derby with a stellar 7.0 return against the Pies.
Often opposed to Darcy Moore, considered an all-Australian contender, Kennedy marked strongly and kicked with unerring accuracy as he capitalised on some quality forward 50 entries.
The dual Coleman medallist took five of the team’s 14 marks inside the attacking arc, including two vice-like grabs under intense defensive pressure, to lead the way for the Eagles. His goal-front accuracy was catching, with Oscar Allen (3.0), Jake Waterman (2.0) and Jamie Cripps (1.0) among those with unblemished score sheets.
Cripps and Waterman each kicked arrows from deep on the northern flank at the city end of the stadium to produce maximum results.
Kennedy had set the standard with goals from all sorts of positions, from on the 50 metre arc, deep in the pocket on his left side and the odd routine shot from well within range and little or no angle.
