With just two games in the WAFL at the weekend there were only seven West Coast players in action, but most of them impacted their respective games.
Jordan Jones and Luke Shuey resumed after extensive lay-offs, Ben McKinley and Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls contributed to a dominant display for East Perth, Koby Stevens was solid for East Fremantle along with Matt Spangher, while Tim Houlihan was outstanding for the Sharks before his afternoon was curtailed by a hamstring strain.
Peel v East Perth
Jordan Jones
A solid return to football after a lengthy absence with an ankle injury in a team that was beaten in almost every facet of the game. He played on a half-back flank, on ball and forward for short periods. Defensively he was good, using the ball well by hand on occasions.
Ben McKinley
Started as he so often does for the Royals in the middle of the ground, working forward. He was then stationed at full-forward at the start of the second term and proceeded to take 12 marks and kick seven goals in a very good effort display in a team that dominated after quarter-time. He had nine set shots and also had a couple of goal assists.
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
Played across half-forward and on a wing and did not impact the game to the same extent that he has in recent weeks. Was thrust into the midfield in the final term which was his best quarter when his ball use was effective. Finished his game with two goals.
Luke Shuey
A good return match for Shuey who played a little over half a game through the midfield and used the ball well by foot. Showed his class at times, was well managed by the Royals coaching staff and should be looking for more ground time next week.
East Fremantle v South Fremantle
Tim Houlihan
Before injuring his hamstring at the start of the third quarter, Houlihan showed a good change of pace and was able to give and get it back on several occasions. He had 17 possessions and two goals in a half which was a great start to the game.
Koby Stevens
Playing the majority of the game as a forward with the occasional run on-ball, he looked fresh and enthusiastic and displayed strong run and a change of pace. He kicked two good set shot goal and worked hard before cramping towards the end of the game
Matt Spangher
Was outstanding at full-back and centre half-back and for the first three quarters completely blanketed his opponent. He ran off and used the ball well with a couple of good kicks which set East Fremantle into a good transition. In the last quarter his opponent kicked two goals, one from a mark on the lead.
