As the West Coast Eagles match committee examines the options available for Sunday’s show-down with the Western Bulldogs at Subiaco Oval, they would be encouraged by the form of players in the WAFL.

Whether it is rookies pushing up for possible elevation to the main list or experienced players looking for another opportunity, the possibilities abound.

With Jordan Jones on the long-term injury list there is the option available of promoting a rookie list player to main list. Ashton Hams has already enjoyed that chance this year and again pout his hand up with a strong effort for South Fremantle, while Bulldogs forward Callum Wilson and West Perth midfielder Andrew Strijk also laid claim for a senior spot.

And several senior squad members also thrust their names forward with Koby Stevens and Tim Houlihan in good form for East Fremantle while Quinten Lynch and Ashley Hansen were senior forwards in good touch.

Perth v South Fremantle

Will Sullivan
Did very well with 40 hit outs, although he was out-bodied at times by his opponent. Had only nine possessions, but made them count and his second efforts were good.

Ashley Smith
Smith played across half-back and on the wing, where he produced a couple of dazzling runs. Would have liked to have exerted a stronger influence on the game.

Ashton Hams
After a quiet game last week, was used across half-forward and through the midfield and was a key contributor to his team’s success. Worked really hard in contest and got some good clearances. His ball use was very good and finished off his game with two good goals.

Callum Wilson
A reliable focal point for South Fremantle, taking 13 marks and was outstanding on the lead. Could have converted a few more opportunities, kicking 3.5. There was a very strong breeze which did effect kicking.

East Fremantle v West Perth

Koby Stevens
Playing on-ball and across half-forward he was clean with his hands at stoppages and around the ground. He  showed a good change of pace on several occasions and positioned himself well to receive the ball from teammates. Picked up 35 possessions in an eye-catching display.

Tim Houlihan
He used the ball well by hand and foot with 26 possessions playing off a wing and through the midfield. He ran hard and continuers to gain badly-needed match conditioning in just his second full hit-out for the year.

Matt Spangher
Opposed to Quinten Lynch for the first three quarters before moving to centre half-forward to give East Fremantle a lift in the last quarter, Spangher competed well inside the defensive 50. Lynch managed, however, to take several marks leading up strongly. His ball use was good, but he was shaded by Lynch on the day.

Quinten Lynch
Quinten was a very good contributor over four quarters for West Perth. He was sharp on the lead with the majority of his 10 marks coming from this situation. He also competed strongly in pack contests, had 11 inside 50s and kicked three goals.

Andrew Strijk
After starting on the bench then playing half-forward and through the midfield with spells off the ground, he was very lively right from the start with six possessions and a goal in the first quarter. His ball use was very good and showed good evasive skills in traffic.

Subiaco v Swan Districts

Adam Cockie
Playing at half-forward and through the midfield, Cockie  was clean with his hands at stoppage and showed a good change of pace offensively on a number of occasions.  Played with good energy and aggression in a solid performance in a side beaten by 45 points.

Ashley Hansen
Resumed after an injury lay-off and marked strongly on the lead.  He kicked four goals in the opening quarter and later missed several set shots that he would normally expect to kick.  Ash hit several packs hard and brought the ball to ground for his crumbers and set up several goals for teammates.

Tony Notte
Playing largely out of a forward pocket, Notte moved well when he used his pace and agility. Came off the ground in the third quarter with what appeared to be an injured knee, but returned 10 minutes later.

Ryan Neates (Swan Districts reserves)
Playing in the Swan Districts reserves because Claremont had a bye, Neates showed plenty of dash and used the ball well in gathering around 20 possessions.

Peel v East Perth

Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
Jarrad played half-forward and on-ball for 15 minutes in the last quarter and had a very good game, gathering 20 possessions and kicking two goals. His disposal of the ball was efficient, he released the ball quickly and generally made good decisions.
