The West Coast Eagles is ready to kick off its Telethon fundraising campaign for another year, with the help of the club’s Telethon ambassador, Daniel Kerr.
Kerr, along with his West Coast teammates, will be volunteering their time in the phone rooms over the Telethon weekend, and are encouraging West Coast fans to support the club’s fundraising efforts for the charity.
Telethon has been an official charity partner of the West Coast Eagles since 2008, during which time the club has helped raise more than $400,000 for the charity, with all proceeds going towards improving the lives of WA’s sick and injured kids.
Every year the club dedicates a home match to raising funds for Telethon, with this year’s official Telethon match day taking place this Saturday when West Coast takes on Essendon at Patersons Stadium.
The club will be encouraging all members and fans to give generously to the volunteers from BHP Billiton who will be situated around Patersons Stadium accepting Telethon donations. As the club’s principle community partner, BHP Billiton have also generously offered to match all funds raised by their volunteers on match day.
The Eagles are also hosting the Chris Mainwaring Legends Match for Telethon again this year to help to raise vital funds for the children's charity. Everyone from past football legends, Australian celebrities and Mainwaring family members will be lacing up their boots in the name of Telethon for the ever-entertaining match.
This year, Perth footy fans are in for a real treat with AFL powerhouse club Collingwood putting together a star-studded team of past greats for the very first time to take on legends from the West Coast Eagles.
The Magpie greats who have come on board so far include Anthony Rocca, Damian Monkhurst and Tony Francis. West Coast coach and recent Hall of Fame inductee John Worsfold will be lacing up his boots as well in the name of charity.
The Chris Mainwaring Legends Match will also once again include the highly-entertaining charity mascot race, which will see Eagles mascot Rick The Rock take on Telethon mascot Fat Cat, among others.
The Chris Mainwaring Legends Match will be played under lights on Saturday, October 8 at Patersons Stadium. Tickets for the match are on sale now from www.ticketmaster.com.au.
