Popular West Coast Eagles forward Ashley Sampi and premiership players Glen Jakovich and David Hart will travel to Port Hedland next week as part of BHP Billiton Iron Ore’s Kicking Goals program. While the visit will also feature the town of Newman, where a large portion of BHP Billiton’s operations are based, a particular focus will be on Hedland Senior High School.Sessions with students will include football-based skill activities and studies of the game, however, the topics of leadership, sportsmanship, communication and positive thinking will be equally considered.Kicking Goals, with the ongoing support of Swan Districts Football Club, has enjoyed a successful first year as one of the West Coast Eagles’ most exciting community initiatives. This will be the West Coast Eagles’ second major trip to the Pilbara region since the official launch of Kicking Goals at Subiaco Oval in May.Sampi, Jakovich, Hart and young defender Beau Waters visited Newman and Port Hedland in June and met with schools, indigenous after-school study groups and local football clubs.Yet the program is not solely limited to secondary students with a number of primary schools to also benefit from the trip.
