The ongoing efforts of the David Wirrpunda Foundation in its inaugural year have been formally recognised with a FESA Community Safety Award.Initially nominated by Merveen Cross, Senior Community Safety Officer, the Foundation has been awarded for its work with FESA’s (Fire & Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia) Juvenile and Family Fire Awareness program.Having also enjoyed a terrific season on-field with the West Coast Eagles, Wirrpunda drafted the services of teammates Ashley Sampi and Jeremy Humm, and Foundation trainee Lauren Seelander, to take part in the production of a DVD to target juveniles and families at risk. Each talent spoke of their experiences with a strong focus on the negatives of firelighting. The Foundation also supported an activity for “Preventing Deliberately Lit Fires” at September’s Majarrka Festival in Fitzroy Crossing in the State’s north-west.Representatives from the Foundation will return to the north-west from Monday with a visit to Roebourne and its indigenous communities. The David Wirrpunda Foundation, proudly supported by Woodside, was launched in February with its offices at Subiaco Oval unveiled in July.
