The trick in organising the structure of a football team is ensuring your best players get their hands on the ball.

He has shown throughout his career that he is deadly in front of goal. But Adam Simpson and his coaching staff were keen to get his elite kicking skills more involved in the game. So they thrust the sharp-shooter into the midfield.

It’s a bit of a catch 22 situation, because the Eagles enjoy having the ever-threatening LeCras, who has an uncanny goal sense, hovering around the scoring zone, where he is able to swoop on the most remote of opportunities to create scoreboard pressure.

Push him into the midfield and the risk is that that the attacking edge, so necessary in securing victory, is dulled to some extent.

On Saturday against the Dees, the club got what they needed in both areas of the ground.

LeCras was used in the midfield as well as forward, used his creative skills to set up play with one of the most complete performances of his career, resulting in 23 possessions, eight marks and hitting the scoreboard with four goals.

Aside from those impressive numbers, he also laid six tackles in what was arguably the most complete effort of his career. He has obviously kicked more goals many times in his career, but rarely has his output been so complete.
