Despite a smaller than usual crowd at Subiaco Oval last Saturday, 27,000 of West Coast’s most generous supporters turned up to the Eagles Dig Deep Day clash against the Adelaide Crows and helped contribute more than $23,000 on the day, taking the total amount raised for the Cancer Council WA in this year’s Dig Deep campaign to $80,000.
Cancer Council WA volunteers were out in force on the day, selling the highly sought-after $3 Dig Deep wristbands and taking donations from football fans eager to help out such a worthy cause.
Since 2005, a West Coast home fixture has been dedicated to raising funds for the Cancer Council WA. Dubbed ‘Dig Deep Day’ the match is devoted entirely to raising funds for important cancer research projects as well as support for people with cancer and their families.
The Dig Deep campaign is West Coast’s biggest fundraising initiative for the Cancer Council WA running from the beginning of June and culminating with the Dig Deep Day match.
Cancer Council WA player ambassador Beau Waters has thanked everyone who bought a wristband or donated for their support.
“Cancer is a disease that affects every one of us in some way at some point in our lives and to be able to see our members and fans dig deep and give generously is a great testament to the commitment our club has shown in the fight against our nation’s biggest killer,” Waters said.
With another $80,000 raised for the Dig Deep campaign this year, West Coast has now helped raise more than $600,000 for the Cancer Council WA over the last 6 years through the Dig Deep campaign and with the support of campaign partner Caltex the club looks forward to continuing the fight against cancer.
All the money raised from the Dig Deep campaign goes directly to the Cancer Council WA.
