West Coast’s round one clash with Melbourne on Sunday has been given the green light to go ahead.
However, the Eagles AFLW side’s inaugural campaign is over after the decision was made to skip the final two rounds and move to finals.
The AFL confirmed late on Wednesday it would push ahead with the season-opening round of men’s matches, beginning on Thursday evening when Richmond faces Carlton at the MCG.
The Eagles will close out the round when they host the Demons behind closed doors at Optus Stadium on Sunday at 3.20pm local time.
In a bid to help fit a shortened 17-game season into the uncertain times ahead, matches will be cut to 16-minute quarters plus time on.
“We don’t know how many games we will get into this 153 game journey before we have to pause,” AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said.
“But what I do know today is I feel comfortable with the government and medical advice, and the support of our Presidents, CEOs, players and coaches.
“Tonight, our industry is unified in making a decision to start.”
