With the AFL completing its investigation into the incident involving forward Liam Ryan on January 15, the West Coast Eagles have finalised the Club’s review.
The AFL released a statement on Monday confirming its Integrity Unit and WA Police had determined Ryan was not at fault for an altercation which broke out as he and his companions were leaving a music event.
This aligned with the Club’s findings that Ryan attempted to de-escalate the situation before facing a serious physical threat.
“While our Club doesn’t condone violence, this was not a situation that Liam wanted to be involved in and he tried to de-escalate the matter before the altercation took place,” Head of Football John Worsfold said today.
“Liam fully cooperated with WA Police, AFL Integrity Unit and Club inquiries, and he is now keen to put the matter behind him.
“We will continue supporting Liam while also educating our entire playing group about the situations they can find themselves in at public events, and the potential risks involved.”
In line with the AFL findings, and following consultation with the player leadership group, the Club will also take no further action.
