Emerging midfielder Corey Adamson has taken another community visit to the Pilbara as part of the West Coast Eagles’ Kicking Goals program.
Adamson took a break from training to visit Newman Senior High School, imparting knowledge and coordinating football drills with students across all year groups.
The former professional baseball player also addressed the school assembly, presenting awards to high achievers and new uniforms to students that will captain teams at the upcoming Country Week tournament.
“This was my second trip to Newman as part of the program,” Adamson said.
“It was really special to see the kids again and to see how things had changed for them and myself since my last visit up here.”
The 22-year-old’s first trip to the mining town came in March, as Adamson neared the end of his first pre-season at the club.
Known as a “five-tool” player in baseball, the quick and powerful outfielder had undergone a significant physical transformation, focusing heavily on cardiovascular endurance and football knowledge and skills throughout the summer.
The transition took some getting used to, but almost three months later, Adamson is beginning to find his feet.
“They asked me how I was going with my running and wanted to know when I was going to play AFL,” Adamson said.
“I was pleased to tell them all that I was finding it much easier than during pre-season, but that I still had a while to go before I got into the senior side because the boys are playing such good footy.”
Organising drills and helping with individual skills, the developing Eagle was at his best in the Pilbara.
With a keen group of youngsters, Adamson was engaging and charismatic as the students enjoyed a mix of technique and gameplay activities.
The day concluded with a visit to the Polly Farmer Foundation assisting students with homework and assignments.
The West Coast Eagles Kicking Goals program is a joint initiative with Community Partner BHP Billiton and sees 12 West Coast Eagles players and staff visit communities in the Pilbara each year.
