In positive news, West Coast Eagles forward Jake Waterman and midfielder Harley Reid are expected to return to the track next week, after missing training on Monday.
Waterman has missed the last two sessions with back soreness, and will remain on modified duties this week.
“Jake had a little bit of back soreness last Friday,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“He hasn’t missed anything the whole pre-season, so we are using this week just to modify his loads a bit, and will hopefully see him back training next week.”
Reid finished Friday’s training session early with ankle soreness, and after an intense pre-season schedule so far, the 19-year-old will work through a modified program this week.
“Harley has had a really good training block post-Christmas, and had a little bit of ankle soreness last Friday,” Inness said.
“With a long year ahead, we’re just looking after him this week, using it as a de-load week for him, and we expect him to be back training next week.”
Liam Baker suffered a minor ankle injury last week, but has since returned to full training.
“Bakes’ is fine, and back to full training,” Inness said.
“He had a slightly rolled ankle but didn’t miss any running and he’s now back in full training.”
Versatile tall Callum Jamieson is progressing well with his rehabilitation after multiple surgeries at the back end of last season.
“Jamo’ is integrating back into training now after his knee and ankle surgery last season and it’s all going to plan,” Inness said.
Emerging defender Rhett Bazzo underwent surgery in December to repair a fractured bone in his right foot, following a training incident while completing his off-season program.
“Rhett Bazzo had surgery in the Christmas period on his broken foot,” Inness said.
“He’s coming back into training, and we will integrate him more and more over the next couple of weeks.”
Midfield bull Elliot Yeo was recently injured in a tackle during match simulation, damaging the medial ligaments in his right knee and syndesmosis in his right ankle.
“Yeo had ankle syndesmosis surgery which all went to plan,” Inness said.
“We expect to see him hopefully back playing in the first month of the season.”
As announced earlier today, scans have confirmed midfielder Dom Sheed damaged the ACL in his right knee at training on Monday.
Sheed will miss an extended period of time and will now consult with medical experts about the best path forward.
