The West Coast Eagles will be without key defenders Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass for Saturday’s season-finale against Geelong.
McGovern dislocated his thumb in round 16 against Hawthorn and requires an operation that will rule him out of the trip to GMHBA Stadium.
“’Gov’s’ been carrying a thumb issue for a period of time. It’s been getting gradually worse,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“We’re going to take him into surgery, so he won’t play this week.”
Barrass entered the concussion protocols after the round 20 RAC Derby and has since battled hamstring and back concerns.
“Tom hasn’t been able to train for a couple of weeks with his back,” Inness said.
“Because he hasn’t trained for two-to-three weeks he hasn’t done enough to play this week.”
Running utility Jamaine Jones will be unavailable for a second match after suffering a head knock at training last Thursday.
“’JJ’ got a head knock during training last week so he’s in concussion protocols so he won’t play this week again,” Inness said.
