In mixed news, West Coast Eagles midfielder Campbell Chesser is set to spend some time on the sidelines, while fellow mid Tom Gross is hopeful to return to main training on Wednesday following a calf issue.

Chesser underwent ankle surgery on Monday in hopes of extending his game time in 2025.

“Over the past week or so, Campbell has had some ankle issues secondary to a previous ankle injury,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“We proactively intervened with some surgery to give him the best chance of playing as much football as possible later this season.”

Having spent some time off the track last week, promising youngster Gross is expected to return to main training with the group on Wednesday.

“Tom had some calf tightness last week,” Inness said.

“We’ve managed his load this week and expect him to fully train tomorrow.”

Defender Harry Barnett suffered an eye injury recently, restricting his training involvement, but will return to the track this week.

“Harry Barnett got a football to the eye a couple of weeks ago,” Inness said.

“He was out of contact drills for the last couple of weeks, which means he hasn’t been playing.

“He’s got the all-clear from the specialist to start integrating back into full contact now so he’s good to go.”

After an impressive start in the match-simulation against Richmond last week, Matt Flynn was removed from the game following a knock to his back.

“Flynny’ got a knock to his back against Richmond, so we took him out of that game,” Inness said.

“He had some soreness for the next week but again, we’ll see him hopefully getting the contact tick-off tomorrow to be available to play later this week.”

Emerging ruck Coen Livingstone represented the Indigenous All Stars earlier this month, copping a knock to the midsection mid-game, resulting in a follow up post-game.

“Coen got a knock to the ribs in the Indigenous All Stars game,” Inness said.

“He presented with it post-game and wasn’t aware of it during the game, but he needs to get through training tomorrow.

“He will be modified later this week, but we don’t see any long-term issues.”

In positive news, star midfielder Elliot Yeo is progressing well on his rehabilitation journey after ankle syndesmosis surgery last month.

“Elliott is out of the boot and starting to progress to AlterG running later this week and is going really well,” Inness said.
