The West Coast Eagles Football Club is proud to announce an exciting new venture in collaboration with Edith Cowan University (ECU) to establish the West Coast Eagles Academy of Sport Business.

This innovative partnership offers students the unique opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on experience within the Eagles’ high-performance environment while undertaking the comprehensive ECU Diploma in Sport Business offered by the West Coast Eagles Academy of Sport Business and ECU.

Students will complete their contact hours on site at the club over the two semesters. In addition, students will have access to up to 100 hours of work integrated learning across all areas of the club, with up to two students each year earning a full-time role with the Eagles.

This immersion within the club will enhance their learning journey, providing rare educational opportunities and on-the-job training to best prepare them for a future within the sports industry.

Expressions of interest for entry into the diploma with ECU through the West Coast Eagles Academy of Sport Business are now open, with the first cohort of students commencing the course in February 2025.

There will also be an Information Session held at West Coast Eagles headquarters and the home of the new ECU course, Mineral Resources Park in Lathlain, in the lead into the West Coast Eagles AFLW team’s first home match on Friday, August 30.

West Coast Eagles CEO Don Pyke expressed his excitement about the new collaboration.

“We are really excited to be building on our long-term partnership with ECU with this innovative new Diploma in Sport Business," Pyke said.

"Not only does it provide a new pathway into a career in the sport industry, but through the work integrated learning we get the opportunity to see the sports leaders of the future.”

ECU School of Business and Law Executive Dean Professor Maryam Omari said the venture is part of ECU’s ongoing commitment to industry-connected learning.

“We are thrilled that our students will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the occupational tasks that are directly relevant to the industry,” Professor Omari said.

“Not only will they build the skills and confidence to pursue rewarding careers, but they are doing so with some of the best in Australian football though the West Coast Eagles Academy of Sport Business.”
