Three exciting West Coast Eagles have recommitted to the club, with Mikayla Western, Kayley Kavanagh and Georgie Cleaver signing contract extensions.

Western is locked in for two more years until the end of 2026, while recent draftees Kavanagh and Cleaver have signed up until the end of 2025.

Western joined the Eagles ahead of season seven and was outstanding in her first season in the blue and gold, especially on the defensive end.

The Claremont midfielder is s speedy and damaging on-ball talent and her ability to use her pace and bring defensive pressure through the midfield is first class.

Kavanagh, a Victorian teenage talent, is a ball-winning inside midfielder, who contributes well with her production and clean hands.

Hailing from the Calder Cannons, Kavanagh continues to improve on her game and finished 2023 as Vic-Metro’s MVP and an All-Australian, before the Eagles selected her with pick 14 in the 2023 AFLW Draft.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Kavanagh ruptured her ACL in April while playing in the WAFLW, ruling her out for the upcoming AFLW season.

Dual-sport athlete Georgie Cleaver was drafted by the Eagles with pick 39 in the 2023 AFLW Draft, with the understanding she would transition between football and netball with the West Coast Fever.

The 18-year-old left-footer starred for East Fremantle in the WAFLW in 2023, playing an essential role in the Shark’s premiership win over Claremont.

Eagles AFLW List Manager Jordan Loxley said it’s pleasing to have all three players remain in the blue and gold.

“We are so pleased to be able to extend both Georgie and Kayley for a further year,” Loxley said.

“We see both Kayley and Georgie as long-term players here at West Coast, so it's great to have them sign on with us for at least another year.

“Mikayla has been extremely impressive throughout the pre-season, and we see enormous upside in ‘Westy's’ football.

“She possesses elite speed, which is extremely rare, and we think she is going to be a very damaging forward for us this year and beyond, we believe Mikayla's best football is in front of her.”
