It was a spirited fight from the WAFL Eagles on Sunday, but they couldn’t get over the line against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval, falling by 24 points.

The Eagles showed a number of positive patches throughout the game, and senior coach Kyal Horsley was pleased wit the team’s response this week.

“We came up against a quality team, an in-form Swan Districts, and I was pleased with the players’ response after last week’s game against South Fremantle,” Horsley said.

“While it was pleasing to see the response, it was still a frustrating day, our inability to capitalise when we had long periods of momentum, and our inability to stop the Swans when they had the ball cost us any chance of being able to win the game.

“To the players credit, it clicked in the last quarter, and we saw them produce some quality team football that gives them evidence of that they are capable of as a collective.”

Top Performers

Harry Edwards

Really strong game from Harry, he got the balance right on when to spoil and when to intercept and played with a real presence all game.

Jack Williams

Jack built his game off high work rate and defensive intent, which he kept connected in all phases of the game. He got rewarded with four goals and looked like the dominant forward on the ground.

Harley Sparks

Another strong game from Harley, his connection with the other defenders and willingness to gut run both in team defence and our ball movement have been a big asset for the team and it’s allowing him to contribute all game.

Zane Trew

A strong performance from Zane, he gave us real drive all game and really lifted in the last quarter trying to drag us back into the game.

AFL Listed Players

Jack Hutchison

A lot to like about the way Jack plays the game He works extremely hard in all facets of the game and has a real poise with ball in hand which allows him to make good decisions.

Andrew Gaff

Another good performance from Andrew, his leadership and willingness to help others is going to be invaluable to the younger men playing alongside him.

Luke Edwards

Another step forward for Luke in his second game back. He looked much sharper in his decision making and worked hard all game for the team. He showed his class with two goal assists, and I look forward to seeing him launch off this.

Archer Reid

While it was hard for our talls to have a big presence in the air, Archer had some real trademark efforts, a big chase down tackle the highlight, and his team defence, this is a trait that will serve him well over his entire career.

Harvey Johnston

Harvey has been providing real energy down back and this game was no different, he communicates well and see’s the game well in team defence which allows him to help others, he used the ball efficiently all game under heavy Swan District pressure.

Loch Rawlinson

Loch showed his willingness to work hard all game for the team and was rewarded with a classy goal on the run, he applied strong pressure in our front half with three forward 50 tackles.

Clay Hall

Good response from Clay, he showed his best version with some dashing displays out of stoppage, he worked hard in team defence against a team who really challenge you in that area and was strong in the contest.

Jordyn Baker

Really strong defensively from Jordyn and he generated good passages of play for us in our ball movement. It was great to see him get forward and generate three inside 50’s to go with his six rebound 50’s for the team.

Coen Livingstone

Coen split his time 50/50 with ruck and forward, while not the statistical performance he would have liked, his aggression in the ruck gave our mids good predictability and his want to block for other talls in marking contests gave them good looks in what was a crowded aerial battle.

Harry Barnett

Harry split his time 50/50 with ruck and forward, and while it was a tough day in the air for our talls, his ability to create the contest gave our smalls some really good looks at ground level. He had a solid game in ruck contests which is pleasing with the power of work he is putting in.

Tyrell Dewar

Tyrell brought his strengths on the weekend and led the way for sprint meters for the entire list on Sunday. While this didn’t translate in the first half with offensive output, it did start to generate for him in the second half where he had a real impact on the game.

Jai Culley

Jai got the ultimate compliment in the second half with some attention from a lock down player, to his credit he sacrificed a bit of his own output to help others and looked to block and free up other players while also still having strong impact in the contest.

Coby Burgiel

Tough day on the wing with the way the game was played but it was good to see Coby get some reward for his work rate with a goal and another shot, he worked hard to support our backs all game.
