Three Eagles with various ailments will be tested at training ahead of West Coast’s trip to face Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

Jeremy McGovern (thumb), Matt Flynn (ankle) and Jake Waterman (leg) are aiming to take on the Demons after sustaining injuries in the loss to Hawthorn.

“Matt Flynn rolled his ankle on the weekend so we took him out of the game. It’s only an ankle sprain so he’ll be a test this week but we’ll know more information later in the week,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“’Gov’ had an x-ray on his thumb, luckily there’s no break, so he’ll be a test again later in the week.

“Jake got a boot to the back of his leg, which actually cut open the back of his leg just behind the knee. He was stitched up and kept playing the game but he’ll be a test later in the week.”

In exciting news, young guns Elijah Hewett (foot) and Rhett Bazzo (groin) are close to playing football.

Experienced midfielder Dom Sheed and speedster Jack Petruccelle are also chances to play next weekend after hamstring strains.

“Jack had a small hamstring strain late last week at training on Thursday,” Inness said.

“Because it was so late in the week he missed last week but with his soft-tissue history we’re going to be pretty conservative with him so he’ll miss this week as well.

“Dom has also got a slight hamstring strain. Again, won’t play this week, but he’ll be back into training later this week and early next week and we’re hoping to see him return to play not long after that.

“Good news for Elijah and Rhett, they’re expected to full train this week, have a big session later this week and we’re hoping to see them return to play the week after.”

Big man Callum Jamieson missed the WAFL Eagles’ clash with Swan Districts due to a knee problem and won’t play against Peel on Saturday.

“Cal Jamieson had a bit of a knee issue the middle of last week with a patella tendon, so he won’t play this week,” Inness said.

“We’ll put a timeframe around him in the next week or so.”
