In heartbreaking news, young West Coast Eagles midfielder Courtney Rowley will require ACL surgery on an injury sustained in round 10 of the 2023 season.

After the incident happened in a tackle late in the game, Rowley was initially assessed on the boundary by the medical team, she felt fine to continue and was cleared to return to play.

Following her end of season medical assessment, and after swelling dissipated, a change in function and symptoms led to a follow up MRI scan, revealing the unfortunate extent of the injury.

Head of Women’s Football Michelle Cowan said Rowley’s teammates and the club will be there to support the 20-year-old, who has played 25 games and developed into an important part of the young Eagles squad.

“We’re extremely disappointed to receive the news of Courtney’s injury,” Cowan said.

“The club and Courtney’s teammates will wrap their arms around her, and she will have our full support as she goes through the rehab process.

“We wish her a smooth and speedy recovery, and look forward to her continuing to be a big part of our team going forward.”
