WA’s biggest sporting rivalry will remain the ‘RAC Derby’ after the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers extended their RAC WA partnerships promoting road safety until at least the end of 2025.
RAC WA joined the Eagles as an official partner and became the naming rights sponsor of the RAC Derby in 2019, before commencing as the RAC AFLW Derby partner the following year.
West Coast Eagles CEO Trevor Nisbett was delighted to extend the Club’s RAC WA partnership, with the shared aims of improving road safety and driver education.
“The West Coast Eagles are thrilled to continue partnering with RAC WA to improve road safety outcomes and help spread critically important messages throughout the WA community,” Nisbett said.
“The RAC Derby and AFLW RAC Derby are the showpiece WA matches of their respective competitions and present terrific opportunities to educate all West Australians to be safe while travelling around our great State.
“Our connection with more than 100,000 members and hundreds of thousands of supporters will continue to help us and RAC WA encourage the community to take care on our roads to avoid unnecessary trauma and heartache.”
RAC Group CEO Rob Slocombe said the partnership would help create a safer WA on the roads.
“Our sponsorship of the RAC Derby provides an important platform to spread road safety awareness to the community,” Slocombe said.
“We look forward to working with the Clubs to continue creating a safer WA in the seasons ahead.”
Over the past five years, RAC WA’s partnership with the State’s two AFL clubs has raised awareness of road safety campaigns, including the most recent ‘Change your speed, change your outcome’ message.
These impactful campaigns involved former West Coast captain Luke Shuey and AFLW captain Emma Swanson joining Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe and Emma O’Driscoll in sharing their personal road safety stories and encouraging greater awareness in the WA community.
The sponsorship with the clubs allows RAC WA further opportunities to engage members around road safety messages, as well as providing ‘money-can’t-buy’ experiences including the opportunity to toss the coin at the start of each RAC Derby.
The sponsorship supports RAC WA’s advocacy priority to create a safer WA. For more information visit rac.com.au/derby.
