Exciting young West Coast Eagles pair Ella Roberts and Charlie Thomas have been named in the 2023 22Under22 squad of 44, both being recognised for their outstanding seasons in the blue and gold.
Teenage talent Roberts was named the round one Rising Star nominee after an impressive performance in the AFLW RAC Derby, finishing with 24 disposals, four marks and four tackles, and was awarded the best afield medal for her efforts.
Roberts was a standout for her team this season, impressing with her high-flying marks, ferocious tackles and thumping kick.
Emerging defender Charlie Thomas played a pivotal part in the Eagles’ backline this season, the 20-year-old was a consistent and dependable operator, displaying her class and maturity on a weekly basis.
Thomas performed her role to perfection, upsetting the opposition’s momentum with strong intercept marks and efficient kicking out of defence, finishing in the top five in the League for rebound 50s.
22Under22 is a fan-voted concept that recognises the best 22 players aged 22 and under for the entirety of the season, including finals.
For a player to be eligible for the squad of 44, they were required to play 50 per cent of season games, equating to five matches.
Voting is open for seven days from November 9th to November 15th, with the final team announced on November 22nd via the AFL Players’ Association’s social media channels.
