Where and when: Mineral Resources Park, Sunday, October 15, 2:05pm
TV: Live on 7 and 7plus, Fox Footy, Kayo and the AFL and AFLW Live Official apps.
Last time we met: West Coast 0.1 (1) def. by Narrm 11.13 (79) at Casey Fields, round 10, season seven.
The West Coast Eagles finished season seven on a disappointing note, falling to the Demons by 78 points on the road in round 10. Narrm dominated across the board for the entirety of the game, putting the Eagles under immense pressure with a disciplined team performance. Emerging star Ella Roberts stood tall in what was a tough day out, finishing with a game-high 22 disposals and a game-high seven marks, while impressive young defender Charlie Thomas managed 19 touches.
What it means for the Eagles: It has been a rollercoaster couple of weeks for the developing Eagles side, securing their first win of the season over Port Adelaide in round five, before falling to Greater Western Sydney last round in a disappointing defeat. West Coast will be facing a considerable challenge this week against the third-placed Narrm, who are coming into this game following their first loss in 14 games and will be hungry to return to the winners list. The Eagles will be striving to remain in the contest and put on a competitive display in front of the home fans, friends and family.
The stat: Despite the current ladder positioning, West Coast has a higher season average in marks (45.5 to 42.5) and tackles (66.2 to 65.8) than Narrm.
Oppo in focus: Current 2023 leading goalkicker Eden Zanker will be one to watch on Sunday, coming off an impressive five-goal haul against Adelaide last week. The tall forward has been a reliable target for the Demons inside 50 this season and the Eagles defenders will have their work cut out for them in trying to nullify her impact on the game.
It’s a big week for: The Eagles forwards
West Coast has shown some growth through the midfield in recent weeks but have still been struggling to make the most of their opportunities in the forward line. Inside 50s could be hard to come by this weekend against and experienced Narrm lineup, so the Eagles are going to need to take hold of each and every opportunity that comes their way in front of goals and register some numbers on the scoreboard.
Big call: Amy Franklin will kick multiple goals (two) after being recalled to the side to face the Dees.
