In heartbreaking news, defender Sasha Goranova has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering a significant ACL injury in Saturday’s clash with Greater Western Sydney.
Goranova was attacking the ball in the fourth term and went to change direction when her knee twisted awkwardly, she went down in excruciating pain and was helped from the ground by medical staff.
“Sasha sustained a right knee injury during the game and was removed,” AFLW Head of High Performance Wes Salisbury said.
“She got scans on Monday night and unfortunately that has shown an ACL tear, or rupture.
“This is obviously devastating for her and the program, but as a club we will look after her as best as we can, and she’ll enter our rehab protocols in the coming weeks.”
Ruck Sarah Lakay has been recovering from an aggravated pars defect in her back and will face her final test this week.
“With Sarah, she’s ticked off a lot of her rehab progressions,” Salisbury said.
“The last final test will be for her to get through main training today and if she does that, she will be available for selection for the weekend.”
