Comet Bay College has backed up its 2015 Eagles Schoolboys Cup heroics by claiming the prestigious title again this year.
The recent grand final presented an exciting opportunity for both Comet Bay and rivals Mazenod College.
For Comet Bay, it was the chance to create history and win their third consecutive grand final. For Mazenod, the match presented an opportunity to avenge last year’s grand final defeat at the hands of Comet Bay and claim their first title since 2001.
In the 33rd year of the competition, more 150 teams and 4000 lower school students from across Western Australia competed in a quality competition that represents a significant partnership between West Australian Football Commission and the West Coast Eagles.
In what was a very tight contest for three quarters, a five-goals-to-none final quarter by Comet Bay helped them win their third consecutive grand final by 39 points over Mazenod.
Comet Bay’s Kyle Peachey and Mazenod’s Jai Teale were presented with game day footballs after the match as recognition for being their school’s best players in the bout.
The Ross Davis Medal was awarded to Deon Welhan from Comet Bay College for his outstanding performances throughout the competition.
WAFC manager of school and junior competitions Darren Davis said the competition wouldn’t be possible without the support of the West Coast Eagles.
“The WAFC continues to work closely with the school community in designing and implementing quality football education and participation programs. School sport is integral to the health of the game in WA,” he said.
“On behalf of the WAFC can I take this opportunity to thank all of the staff who play a role in the delivery of school football.”
