Loping left-footer Dom Sheed has recovered from a freak training accident a month ago and will return to senior football as the West Coast Eagles tackle Richmond at the MCG on Saturday.

He has missed the last four matches after suffering a hit to the throat in a stoppage drill in the lead-up to the round four clash with Melbourne, but has been given the all-clear to resume.

Because of the nature of the injury, Sheed went to hospital post-training on that day and was closely monitored. He has been able to maintain his fitness base and will be a welcome addition to play the Tigers.

The inclusion of Sheed is the only change to the team that was blown away by Carlton last week, but further good news looms as exciting young midfielder Campbell Chesser has been named as an emergency along with Zane Trew and young ruckmen Callum Jamieson and Harry Barnett.

Chesser was one of the casualties in an afternoon of carnage when he suffered a knee injury. The club’s top selection from the 2021 draft has recovered and is in back in the selection frame, contending for the position as the substitute.

He or Trew are the front-runners for the 23rd spot in the team.
