Defensive pillar Tom Barrass’ fine season could be rewarded with selection in the 2022 All-Australian team on Wednesday night.

The AFL has confirmed the 2022 AFL awards – including the Leigh Matthews Trophy as AFLPA MVP, NAB AFL Rising Star and AFL Coaches Association Champion Player – will be held on Wednesday, August 24.

The awards will be broadcast from 5pm AWST on Fox Footy.

Barrass shapes as West Coast’s best chance of All-Australian selection after dominating his position in the back half of the season, with coach Adam Simpson believing the 26-year-old was worthy of receiving his first blazer.

The strong-marking full-back held back the tide at times for the Eagles with some stellar performances, highlighted by some career-high returns against Hawthorn (30 disposals, 18 marks) and Fremantle in round 22 (nine intercept marks).

Barrass, veteran half-back Shannon Hurn and selfless midfielder Jack Redden have also been nominated for the AFLPA MVP, voted on by the players.

Promising draftee Brady Hough is in the mix for the Best First-Year Player going, while Barrass is also a chance to claim the Robert Rose Most Courageous award as the Eagles’ nominee.
