Powerful journeyman Jonathan Giles has today landed at the West Coast Eagles.
The 201cm ruckman, who played 51 games with Greater Western Sydney before joining Essendon last year – where he played a further three games – joins West Coast after the two clubs traded draft positions.
The Eagles have swapped their third selection (#57) and gained Essendon’s fourth round selection (#62) as well as Giles.
Giles, 27, was originally drafted to Port Adelaide with pick 70 in the 2005 draft, and was then secured by the Giants in the 2011 ballot, before moving to the Bombers last year. Strong and athletic, he had also shown a capacity to push forward and take imposing contested marks, kicking 39 goals as a Giant.
“We’re delighted to have Jonathan join our club,” Craig Vozzo, General Manager – Football said. “In terms of our list profile, we have achieved our principal objectives in the trade period, bringing in Jack Redden, Lewis Jetta to add another dimension to our midfield and now Jonathan, who will provide ruck support to Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett.
“Jonathan is a very good ruckman, he’s mature and he can push forward. He is an impressive person and we believe he will be a good fit for our football club.”
