The West Coast Eagles will have a strong contingent of First Nations people in Sunday’s team against Carlton as the AFL celebrates NAIDOC week.
This round of football shines the light on National Aboriginal and Islanders Day and the inclusion of versatile recruit Samo Petrevski-Seton will bring to five the number of Indigenous players who will represent the club.
Other Indigenous players who will represent the club are dynamic forwards Liam Ryan and Willie Rioli, star midfielder Tim Kelly and rebounding defender Jamaine Jones.
Petrevski-Seton was a confirmed starter to play against his former club after the West Coast Eagles match committee today finalised the team to play the Blues at Optus Stadium tomorrow.
Petrevski-Seton was the medical substitute last week against Richmond at the MCG when he was called into the action in the third quarter.
The skilful utility player replaced an injured Elliot Yeo and provided strong rebound out of defence.
He comes into the team as the third inclusion – with champion forward Josh Kennedy and tall defender Harry Edwards. Unfortunately, Yeo will miss several weeks with a hamstring strain while emerging midfielder Connor West was ruled out with an Achilles issue.
Defender Josh Rotham was left out for match-up reasons, given the marking power of Blues attacking pillars Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow. Edwards was preferred as the opponent for one of those dangerous forwards.
The final decision on the medical substitute will come down to a call on defenders Alex Witherden or Luke Foley or midfielders Greg Clark or Jai Culley.
