Football stars of the future took to the field at Mineral Resources Park last Friday, to participate in school holiday coaching clinics.

The morning saw over 100 junior members practice their kicking, marking and handballing across five different stations, led by West Coast Eagles staff and AFLW players, Sophie McDonald and Sarah Lakay.

A fifth station was run by staff from the club’s Mineral Resources Park neighbours, West Coast Health & High Performance, allowing participants to partake in a variety of strength and conditioning drills.

The members were joined by crowd favourite Rick the Rock, who wandered throughout the activities and caused mischief across the morning.

In the afternoon, a group of budding AFLW players took to the oval to practice their football skills at the girls-only Female Academy Footy Clinic.

McDonald and Lakay were joined by teammates Kellie Gibson and Aimee Schmidt, giving the girls the chance to learn from strong female role models, while the small groups allowed for personalised coaching from stars of the game.

Again, the AFLW players were assisted by club and West Coast Health & High Performance staff in running the activities and drills, which allowed the participants to practice their football skills in a safe and supportive environment at the home of the West Coast Eagles.

Thank you to all the participants who attended the clinics, we hope you had a fantastic time.

Thanks must also go to the club’s Youth Engagement Partner, BHP, for their support of the Female Academy Footy Clinic.
