Inaugural Eagle Alicia Janz has been acknowledged as this years’ AFLW Indigenous Round Honouree, in recognition of both her contribution to the community and football industry.
Janz is a proud Meriam Mir woman, with history lying in the Eastern (Meriam & Erubian) Islands of the Torres Strait.
Of the 14 inhabited islands, Janz's family resides on Mer (Murray), Masig (Yorke), Erub (Darnley) and Ugar (Stephen).
Janz is a former West Coast Fever netballer turned Eagles player, and is currently an Operations Manager for the Deadly Sista Girlz mentor program, run through the Waalitj Foundation.
The cross-code athlete has always been passionate about giving back to the community and has dedicated more than a decade of her life to the Deadly Sista Girlz program.
This program is delivered by strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander role models, and aims to engage, educate and empower First Nations girls.
From 2007, 5046 girls have been engaged in this program, with 1046 girls being currently mentored across 17 sites.
Janz is the second person to be acknowledged as the AFLW Indigenous Round Honouree, following Aunty Joy Murphy Wandin AO in 2021.
