Luke Shuey’s potential comeback from a calf strain against Melbourne will be discussed later this week, while hamstrung duo Tom Barrass and Liam Ryan remain another week away from returning.
Shuey has missed the past two matches against St Kilda and Collingwood following a minor setback but the skipper is pushing to return for a crucial game on Monday night.
“Luke is tracking well. He’s almost got to the end of the process of rehab and signing off what he needs to with our strength and conditioning staff,” General Manager – Football Craig Vozzo told westcoasteagles.com.au.
“We’ll make that call later in the week and that will be a balanced decision with the feedback that Luke gives us after completing those sessions.”
Barrass will likely miss a fourth match following his hamstring strain, while Ryan will sit out his second game after hobbling off early in the victory over St Kilda.
“Tom is getting close but unlikely for this week. It’s more looking like AFL (round) 22 but it’s so far, so good in terms of recovery. It’s just ended up being at the longer end of the spectrum for a hamstring strain and rehab than normal,” Vozzo said.
“Liam is tracking well. All being well he’ll do some sign-off sessions later in this week and then be available for selection next week.”
Young onballer Luke Edwards is on track to be available from his hamstring issue against the Demons, while Tim Kelly will be fine to play after sustaining a cut knee in the last quarter against Collingwood.
“Tim, it was just a laceration to the knee which has been sorted with our docs. Tim is going to have a lighter week but will still main train and be available to play,” Vozzo said.
“Luke is tracking well from a hamstring strain, he’s certainly further advanced than Tom Barrass and tracking well for some sign-off sessions later in the week.
“If he gets through main training in the spot that our staff deem necessary he’ll be available for selection.”
There is also good news with Jamaine Jones progressing faster than expected from his nasty ankle injury, and the small forward should be available before the end of the home and away season.
Emerging forward-ruck Bailey Williams is also on the mend after resting a troublesome ankle and sitting out last round’s WAFL Eagles victory over Perth.
“Bailey has had a couple of weeks with a grizzly ankle which we’ve just been dealing with,” Vozzo said.
“We thought on the basis of advice from the doctor give him the week off, freshen him up and hopefully he’ll be available to play – we’ve got a bye at WAFL this week with the quarantine arrangement – and hopefully he’ll be available the following week for selection.”
