Adam, where did it go wrong?

Oh look, I thought the first quarter, I don’t know how many inside 50s we had, probably our fair share. No efficiency in the front half and our inability to keep it in our front half was really disappointing. Couldn’t stop their uncontested game and they were running overlap, they made the most of their and we missed our shots. The second quarter was disappointing, really disappointing, it was defensively poor, and offensively there was some poor decisions made as well. And then we chased our tails for the rest of the day. So a really disappointing day altogether.

You won the second half, what was the message at half-time?

Run. Start running. Start defending better. Work together. But I thought the Pies used their brains more than we did as well, with their ball movement, and we didn’t, so we gave them some clarity at half-time. But we shouldn’t need to, we’re better than that so we walk away disappointed, we’ll learn from it, like we do always, but we’re going to review it.

Was it a system issue or a lack of execution, in terms of decision making?

Both probably. The failure to execute, our instructions, the way that we play. Defensively, obviously they were controlling the ball a little bit. Uncontested marks, they had 150 for the day, and if they’re inside the middle of the play, they’re hard to defend. So, I thought our transition was poor, and we got outrun.

What changes do you make next week?

We’ve got to look at it, it’s pretty raw at the moment, got to go through the game, see where we failed. Address it with our players and then try and get better. I mean, the season’s still alive, we’re still thereabouts, but we’re not going to get far if we play like that. So we’re honest about it, we need to own it, and we need to get better real quick, otherwise we won’t get far at all.

Obviously disappointing in Shannon Hurn’s 300th, how do you think he played and what’s the mood like around him at the moment?

Probably as you expect it would be, there’s probably a little bit of guilt for a player that’s served us so well for so many years, and he played his role again today. So we’re disappointed, disappointed on his behalf and disappointed for our members and fans on how we played. So, we need to reflect on it, and we need to learn and we need to get better, real quick.

Anyone back from injury next week?

Liam (Ryan) won’t be, don’t think Luke (Edwards) will be available, might be, maybe a chance. Tom Barrass, maybe. I’m not sure, there are three or four others there that are in the mix, so we’ll have to see how they pull up. But nothing obvious.

Going forward with the COVID restrictions, what does the return to Perth look like?

I’m not quite sure, I think we go back and we quarantine for a couple of weeks whilst we play Melbourne at this stage, but to be honest, everything’s changed today, so we haven’t spoken and dealt with that at all, we’ve been dealing with trying to win here.
