West Coast will continue looking at different avenues to find a spark that reignites the season, with coach Adam Simpson prepared to explore the list and way the side plays on the run home.
The Eagles are holding onto eighth spot and will fly to Adelaide to face the Crows in round 18 with plenty to play for.
With six games remaining, West Coast is determined to seize the opportunity to improve before the end of the home and away campaign.
“We need to explore our list, we need to explore the way we play. Use this next period as an opportunity to get better,” Simpson told Channel Seven.
“We’re still in the eight – we’re eighth on the ladder – we’re just not playing like a finals side at the moment.
“We need to look at different avenues, whether that’s position or personnel we’re open to it.
“We’re pretty keen to do something about it.”
Despite a third-straight loss to the much-improved Kangaroos at Optus Stadium, Simpson saw some progress with the team’s workrate - a small step in the right direction.
“Strangely enough – I know losing to North Melbourne at home is not the plan – but I think we played with more intensity and effort,” he said.
“Disappointed we couldn’t put four quarters together and I thought North were really good, but there was more effort than the week before.
“We can’t do anything without effort and intent, and we’ve got something to work with now.”
That passion was also evident in the exchange between experienced duo Elliot Yeo and Jeremy McGovern during the third quarter after a passage that led to Roos ruck Todd Goldstein’s first goal.
“I haven’t seen it to be honest, but they’re two leaders of our club, they’re big boys, they care about each other and they care about the club,” Simpson said.
“Showing a bit of passion on-field I don’t think hurts anyone.
“We do that when we’re going well and obviously when we need a lift and are going poorly as well.
“Not too concerned about that.”
