The West Coast Eagles welcomed Captain’s Club members to the first luncheon for the 2017 season prior to the 45th Carlton Draught Derby.
More than 370 members attended the sit-down function, hosted by West Coast legend Karl Langdon and club auctioneer Tiny Holly in the Bill Walker Room.
Shortly after dinner was served, Karl was joined on stage by special guest Matt Spangher, who began his AFL career at the Eagles after being picked up in the 2005 AFL Draft.
The cult hero, who sat on the sidelines for Grand Finals at West Coast, Sydney and Hawthorn before finally winning a premiership in 2014, discussed his experience at three very different AFL clubs, as well as the emotions she experienced when he finally experienced premiership glory in 2014.
Matt had time for a few questions from guests as dessert was served, then it was time to welcome the function's second guest for the evening, West Coast Eagles chief executive Trevor Nisbett.
He addressed the club’s progress with the State Government regarding the new Perth Stadium's user agreement and detailed some of the exciting aspects of the club’s new Lathlain Park administration and training facilities.
Nisbett took a few questions from the floor before it was time for Holly to draw out the winners of the raffle, with the first prize-winner taking home a 2017 team and coach signed Guernsey.
Guests headed out to their seats in time for bounce down for one of the blockbuster games of the 2017 fixture.
We thank all members for joining us for the first Captain’s Club luncheon for the year. The next function will be held in round 10 before we take on Greater Western Sydney on Sunday, May 28.
