West Coast’s players and coaches have returned to Perth and star midfielder Elliot Yeo says the hard work to turn the team’s form around is well underway ahead of a rare Monday night clash with North Melbourne.
The Eagles flew back from Victoria on Tuesday and are currently living under restrictions, but preparations for the Roos continue in earnest as the fight for a finals berth intensifies.
West Coast is holding onto seventh spot on the ladder after consecutive disappointing losses, and Yeo was in no doubt about the challenge North would present.
Over the past month, the Kangaroos have drawn with finals contender the Giants, beaten Gold Coast and pushed top-four teams the Bulldogs and Brisbane in 29 and 23-point defeats, respectively.
“They’re playing really good football at the moment,” Yeo told 96FM.
“Ben Cunnington has been playing really good as well, and they have got some really extremely talented young players that are rolling through.
“It’s going to be an exciting game and we need to put our best foot forward.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
Following uncharacteristic back-to-back poor displays against the Dogs and Sydney, the Eagles have spent recent days searching for answers.
Workrate and lack of connectivity have been identified, as well as an inability to halt momentum – which was especially costly in the match-defining second quarter against Sydney as the Swans scored 38 points to nil.
The next step will be to respond through actions.
“It hasn’t been great, and we haven’t really played the football that we want to play,” Yeo conceded.
“We’re probably not as connected as we usually are on-field and we’re working extremely hard to try and get better.
“We don’t go out there to try and lose games of football that’s for sure.”
After facing North Melbourne, the Eagles are set to fly to Adelaide to take on the Crows in round 18, with that fixture set to be confirmed soon.
