West Coast’s performance was well-below expectations but the Eagles got through Sunday’s defeat to the Western Bulldogs unscathed and the club’s injury list continues to shrink.

While young defender Will Collins unfortunately suffered a hamstring setback in the WAFL Eagles’ second-consecutive win, the five senior players returning against the Dogs pulled up well.

“From a performance perspective we didn’t get the result we were looking for, by any stretch, but certainly health and conditioning-wise it was a good outcome,” General Manager – Football Craig Vozzo told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“We came out of the game in a good way and the guys that came back from injury last week will all be available this week, unscathed and will build their fitness from here.

“Tim (Kelly) was good, knee stood up really well to the rigours, and he’ll play more game minutes this week.

“Jeremy (McGovern) had a really good game down back and, like Tim, will play additional minutes this week as well.

“Luke’s (Shuey) building nicely. Obviously now that’s a couple of games under his belt. Not where he wants to be overall but building into his season now and we’ll hopefully get a good period of continuity from here.

“And Brad (Sheppard) coming off a concussion basically picked up where he left off and fitness-wise is in a good spot.

“’Petch’ (Jack Petruccelle) tracked really well from a fitness and speed perspective and all the strength and conditinoning KPIs they look to meet.”

In more good news, Connor West (ankle) and Isiah Winder (knee) are on the verge of being available, while Collins will miss at least two weeks.

“’Westy’s’ ahead of schedule. We were fearing it might have been a longer-term injury but he’s turned the corner so if he trains well this week and, particularly tomorrow our main training session, he’ll be available for selection this week,” Vozzo said.

“Izzy Winder’s real close. Building each week. If there was a WAFL game this week he’d be in consideration and a test come our main training session.

“But obviously without a game we’ll continue to build his fitness and hopefully we’ll have some good availability at WAFL level again when we get back to play.

“Unfortunately with Will, we thought he got through the game last week, which was a great win against the Sharks, but had some hamstring awareness and unfortunately on scan and testing our doctors have confirmed that’s a strain.

“We’ll go back and reassess that and it will be a two-or-three-week period from here to get him right.”
